SMITHVILLE LAKE

A Water Lover’s Paradise Just North of Kansas City

Nestled in the heart of Clay County, Smithville Lake is more than just a reservoir — it’s the Northland’s ultimate outdoor playground. With over 7,000 acres of sparkling water and nearly 175 miles of scenic shoreline, this lake draws boaters, paddlers, campers, hikers, and anglers year-round. Just minutes from downtown Kansas City, it feels like a complete escape into nature.

ADVENTURES ON THE WATER

Boating & Sailing

Cruise wide-open waters, drop anchor in a quiet cove, or set sail from one of the lake’s two full-service marinas. Whether you’re piloting a pontoon, fishing boat, or kayak, Smithville Lake has the space and scenery to make every trip memorable.

Beaches & Swimming

On warm summer days, the sandy swim beaches at Camp Branch and Little Platte Park are the perfect spots to relax, splash, and soak up the sun. Families love the shallow entry and nearby picnic shelters.

Fishing Hotspot

Known as one of the best fishing lakes in Missouri, Smithville is stocked with bass, crappie, catfish, and walleye. Anglers can cast from shore or launch a boat — and with quiet inlets, there’s always a great spot to reel in your catch.
