On warm summer days, the sandy swim beaches at Camp Branch and Little Platte Park are the perfect spots to relax, splash, and soak up the sun. Families love the shallow entry and nearby picnic shelters.
Known as one of the best fishing lakes in Missouri, Smithville is stocked with bass, crappie, catfish, and walleye. Anglers can cast from shore or launch a boat — and with quiet inlets, there’s always a great spot to reel in your catch.
Surrounding the lake are over 60 miles of trails — paved paths perfect for biking and strolling, rugged single-track for mountain bikers, and scenic loops for hikers. Don’t miss the ridge-top overlooks and shaded woodland stretches alive with songbirds.
Smithville offers three major campgrounds — Camp Branch, Crows Creek, and Smith’s Fork — ranging from rustic tent sites to RV hookups. Many sit right along the water, so you can wake up to sunrise views over the lake.

Day-use and annual passes are available through Clay County Parks — perfect if you plan to visit often.
Dogs are welcome on most trails but not on designated swim beaches.

Rentals, fuel, and snacks are available at the marinas, so you can stay out all day.

You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase a campsite with a valid driver’s license. You may purchase a campsite at the Camp Host Booth located at the entrance of each campground. To make an Online Reservation or call the Park Office during business hours at 816-407-3400.
One vehicle pass is included with your camping fee. However, if you have other vehicles or a boat/trailer accompanying you, there is an additional pass is required. Please refer to the “related information” on the Clay County Parks website.
You may bring your own firewood if you would like, however; it must be burned during your stay with us. You may not take firewood out of the park due to the Emerald Ash Borer. Please do not leave any unburned firewood at the campsite. Please do not leave campfires unattended.
Maximum of 6 people per site, with up to two tents or one tent and one camper. Campers are allowed three axled units per site.
